The Barack Costume and Prosperity
It is high time to celebrate October Irish Druid prosperity with a Halloween costume with a message. Start with a Barack costume mask and a shirt with a real statement to keep things lively at your celebration.
Historians believe that Halloween originated in Ireland. Known as "Samhain Night", the festival is said to have celebrated the end of harvesting and the beginning of the winter season.
Hoping the Druid Gods would keep them safe through the winter, the Irish believers spent the evening of October 31 dressed in costuming as they celebrated around bonfires. They paid homage to the Druid gods for safety.
Now days in Ireland, children and adults alike dress up as creatures from the underworld as a reminder of the earlier homages. Costumes range from goblins, witches, zombies, ghouls, and gohsts. The revelers light bonfires and enjoy elaborate fireworks, even in places that fireworks are prohibited.
As is typical of trick or treating, children walk door to door, knocking on doors of neighbors to collect sweets, fruits and nuts for the Halloween festival. As a carryover from the historic times, neighbors would sprinkle salt on the hair of children to protect them from evil spirits. A blend of the old and new traditions.
In addition, the Irish decorate their homes to celebrate Halloween. Homes are decorated with carved pumpkins or turnips with scary faces. Traditionally, a candle is set inside the hollowed out gourd to provide a backlight to the scarry face.
Fruit bread is a traditional Halloween cake. Called a barmbrack (no relation), a piece of treasure, a coin or a ring is placed in each cake. Also, the opposite, a piece of rag, may be placed in the cake. Each person gets a slice and hopes to be lucky to look forward to a prosperous year after receiving a coin. The rag signifies financial doom. The ring signifies a sign of impending romance or continuing happiness.
Create your own significant Halloween message with a Barack Obama message t-shirt and mask. Party in a Barack Costume and ring in a prosperous winter season.
